AIDS Free Pittsburgh

We envision a community where new HIV infections are rare, people living with HIV receive the care they need and young people can grow up in a world without AIDS.

Summary of the project

AIDS Free Pittsburgh (AFP) is a public health movement to end the AIDS epidemic in Allegheny County by 2020. AFP is a collaborative initiative comprised of government agencies, healthcare institutions, and community-based organizations that strive to support and improve the care of people living with HIV/AIDS. AFP aims to reduce the number of HIV infections by 75% and eliminate reported AIDS cases by the year 2020. AFP is financially supported by the Allegheny Singer Research Institute (AHN) and UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and is managed by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation.

The primary objectives of AIDS Free Pittsburgh are to:
1. Diagnose the undiagnosed early in the course of the disease
2. Link to and engage HIV-infected persons in HIV care within 48 hours of diagnosis
3. Achieve a 95% viral load suppression rate for patients receiving HIV care
4. Support efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS transmission among high-risk groups
5. Enhance PrEP and PEP capacity in the number of physicians and locations able to offer the service
